Recap: Bentley Tour

Motorsport has been at the heart of Bentley for 100 years. In 1921, just two years after the first Bentley prototype was revealed, it was racing at the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. Today, Bentley races into its next 100 years with the Continental GT3, it’s most dynamic and powerful race car based on its most advanced road car yet – the Continental GT.

Ten Trackside members and their guests made their way to CW1 House, a showroom containing the full Bentley range and the incredible Speed 8 Le Mans car from 2003. After being treated to a Q&A with current works driver Seb Morris, the group made their way to the factory to see the Continentals being put together. To watch the different components -  dashboards, interiors, engines, front axles, wiring looms and exhaust systems  -  being added to the cars as they slowly rolled themselves round the production line was amazing. We then visited the areas that specialise in the wood and leather used for the interiors. It was a fascinating insight into what it takes to build one of the world’s finest road cars.

We were then taken across to the Motorsport Department, a non-descript workshop that is normally off limits to anyone outside of Bentley. Inside was an Aladdin’s cave of motorsport jewels. An addition to the amazing Le Mans cars and GT race cars, it contained the Pikes Peak winning Continental GT and Bentayga, plus the new ice racing Continental GT. Following an enthralling presentation about how the race cars have developed and the special projects that the team take on, we were free to roam around the workshop, inspect all the cars at close quarters and chat with the engineers who were more than happy to talk about their work. It was proper ‘behind the scenes’ and all the better for it!

The Bentley brand has never been stronger and its clear that the people who work there are passionate about it and the cars they create. We’re very grateful for the time and effort that the Bentley team put into providing the tour for our Trackside members, it was truly special.

Trackside member Jack commented: "We had a fantastic day - the 300 mile round trip was totally worth it! Massive thanks to everyone at Motorsport UK and Bentley for arranging such a great experience. Can't wait to see what else the Trackside Membership brings this year, it's been totally worth every penny already!"
